10th UNGGIM 2020 – Tenth Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management
The tenth session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) will be held from 5 – 7 August 2020 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. UN-GGIM seeks to promote international collaboration in global geospatial information management, and as the relevant body on geospatial information management in the United Nations, to report on all matters relating to geography, geospatial information and related topics to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
The tenth session of the Committee of Experts will address several emerging and critical issues related to geospatial information management globally. Numerous substantive activities have since been undertaken and, as follow-up, they will be reported back and deliberated upon at this tenth session. These include progress on: strengthening institutional arrangements on geospatial information management; the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework, its Implementation Guide and country-level Action Plans; the Global Geodetic Reference Frame for sustainable development; the Global Statistical Geospatial Framework; the Framework for Effective Land Administration; how geospatial information supports and informs the sustainable development goals; advances in legal and policy frameworks for geospatial information management; progress with marine geospatial information; and activities related to geospatial information and services for disasters. The full provisional agenda, as well as other information on the tenth session will be gradually posted. The substantive reports to be discussed during the Committee session will also be loaded as soon as they become available, no later than 15 July 2020.
Several important side events and meetings related to the substantive issues that the Committee is engaged in, including meetings of the UN-GGIM Regional Committees, Subcommittee, Expert Groups, Working Groups and Networks, will be convened on the margins of the tenth session, particularly from 3 – 4 August 2020.
